**Welcome!** This workshop is intended to  **provide future open research instructors and train-the-trainers** with practical skills for **creating positive and inclusive learning environments** when teaching open research. Through real-life examples and hands-on exercises, we will explore how instructors’ **behaviors**, **attitudes**, **communication**, and **interaction with learners** can influence motivation, engagement, and learning success. We will then discover strategies for **fostering a growth mindset**, **active listening**, using **inclusive language**, and taking different **perspectives** of your learners into account.

### Who are these materials for?
- **Aspiring open research instructors**
- **Future open research train-the-trainers** and **educators** in higher education (e.g., universities, colleges) and
- **Self-learners** 

with familiarity about open research challenges, issues and tools, basic didactic skills and a firm grasp on conceptualizing and designing open research teaching events.

### Learning objectives

At the end of this session, you will be able to ...

- **Describe** the key elements of a positive learning environment
- **Characterize** strategies for creating a positive learning environment, including the roles of verbal strategies, body language, growth mindset, interaction norms, perspective-taking, role modelling and inclusive language
- **Describe** the impact of a growth mindset and interaction norms on the learning environment
- **Reflect** which strategies for creating a positive learning environment apply in the Open Research context
