**Welcome!** These materials are intended to **provide future open research instructors and train-the-trainers** with the **awareness of the variety of challenges** in **adopting** Open Research practices. Open Research as a movement is growing. **Awareness of open research principles and practices** is **uneven** across teams, disciplines and institutions which can bring about challenges for leaders. These materials cover some of the reasons behind challenges and provide practical support for leaders to recognize where their sphere of influence lies through a challenge mapping exercise.

### Who are these materials for?

- **Aspiring open research instructors**
- **Future open research train-the-trainers** and **educators** in higher education (e.g., universities, colleges) and
- **Self-learners** 

with familiarity about open research challenges, issues and tools, as well as a strong familiarity with leadership roles and skills.

### Learning objectives

At the end of this session, you will be able to ...

- **Identify** challenges in adopting Open Science practices and **examine** reasons behind them to raise awareness of possible barriers you and others may encounter

- **Distinguish** between challenges according to whether they occur at individual, interpersonal, institutional or systemic levels to practice a key problem-solving leadership skill
