Important

Before applying, please carefully read the selection and eligibility criteria.

Apply to attend Track 1 “Open Science knowledge and skills”

Selected applicants of Track 1 are expected to attend all sessions from Monday 07.09.2026 9:00 to Friday 11.09.2026 16:00 (CEST).

Apply for Track 1 here: https://surveys.osc.lmu.de/OSSS26-application

Target audience: early career researchers of any scientific disciplines (e.g. Medical sciences, Social Sciences, Life Sciences) who are Open Science novices (e.g., advanced Masters students, PhD students, postdocs).
Selection criteria: Clear motivations and ideas about where to integrate these news skills in your own research. At equal scores, novices and LMU members or upcoming LMU members will be favored over external and advanced students and researchers. Preference will also be given to applicants from funding institutional members of the LMU Open Science Center, namely: SyNergy Cluster of Excellence, ORIGIN cluster of Excellence, SHARP consortium, the department of Psychology, the Faculty of Biology, and the Faculty of Business Administration.
Certificate of attendance: You will automatically receive a certificate of attendance following your participation in the summer school.
Note: In previous years, we received over 100 applications for 40 seats in this track. Please keep our selection criteria in mind when writing your application.

Apply to attend Track 2 “Open Science instructor training”

Selected applicants of Track 2 are expected to attend all sessions from Monday 14.09.2026 9:00 to Tuesday 15.09.2026 17:00 (CEST).

Apply for Track 2 here: https://surveys.osc.lmu.de/OSSS26-application

Target audience: early career researchers (e.g., PhD students, postdocs), research project leaders, university lecturers or research support staff interested in becoming Open Science instructors.
Eligibility criteria: Proof of acquired Open Science knowledge and skills (e.g. application for Track 1, certificate of attendance to previous Open Science summer school or equivalent training, link to open research resources such as a GitHub repository, FAIR dataset, or preregistration).
Selection criteria: Clear motivation and a tentative plan for (co-)delivering an Open Science workshop/course/talk or similar event on an open science topic of your choice. Preference will be given to applicants who are strongly considering obtaining the certificate of open science instructor and plan to (co-)deliver an open science workshop or similar event after the summer school. At equal scores, LMU members or upcoming LMU members will be favored over external students and researchers.
Certificate of attendance: You will automatically receive a certificate of attendance following your participation in the summer school.
Certificate of open science instructor: After joining this track, you will have the opportunity to (co-)deliver the workshop/event/talk on an open science topic of your choice you designed during the two-day instructor training. To obtain the open science instructor certificate, you are required to:

  • Attend one short virtual follow-up meeting on either Wednesday, 07.10.2026 or Thursday, 15.10.2026 at 12:00-13:00 (CEST) to discuss practicalities about (co-)delivering your workshop/seminar/planned lesson with other participants and the LMU OSC Team.
  • (Co-)deliver a workshop, talk, lesson or similar before the end of March 2027. If you wish, the LMU Open Science Center will support you during the planning, preparation and (co-)delivery with hands-on feedback and practical tips.

In addition, you are strongly encouraged to fill out the follow-up surveys after the summer school and after (co-)delivering the workshop (if applicable) to capture your experience in the preparation and (co-)delivery process, to reflect on the development of your teaching skills and to help us from the LMU Open Science Center improve for the next iteration of Track 2 workshops.

Join one or several of the public lectures (online)

Note

If you applied for Track 1, you do not need to separately register for the public lectures. Registering for one or more public lectures does not give you access to the workshops for selected applicants of any Track; for this you need to apply above.

Anyone can register at any time before the end of the summer school to attend one, multiple, or all public lectures online.

Register for the public lectures here: https://www.pretix.osc.lmu.de/lmu-osc/OSSS26/

By registering, you will get a confirmation email with a Zoom Webinar link. You can request to receive a certificate of attendance if you attend all eight lectures while signed-in to Zoom.
